Q: Do you accept walk-in traffic?
A: Occasionally. We do not hold stock, so to ensure that you are not disappointed, please call ahead to make sure we have the item you require.

Q: How soon can I receive my goods?
A: Providing the goods are in stock you can receive them as early as 1-2 working days after your order is processed. If you live in a regional area, please allow 3-5 working days. If the items are not in stock you will be contacted by one of our staff during the processing of your order and given an estimated time of arrival (ETA).

Q: I am a regular customer. Do I receive a discount on pricing?
A: All our prices are as competitive as we make them, and we do offer further discounts to repeat customers. Just ask our friendly sales team.

Q: There are so many notebooks to choose from. Where do I begin?
A: There are many things to consider when buying a notebook, but we find that customers are drawn to the following factors:

Power – ask yourself what applications you will be using, and how many you will need open at any one time. This will affect your amount of memory and processor speed. You will also need to consider what drives are useful to your work and play – e.g. CD-Rom rewrite, DVD etc. And how much storage space in your hard drive.

Price – this is a big factor and notebooks are offering more bang for their buck these days, so you can put other issues ahead of price to work out what you need, then look at dollar for dollar value between several different brands

Portability – if you are a road warrior, you might need to consider slim line models and ask yourself if weight is more important than power or storage.

Our friendly staff are standing by to discuss the particularities of any machine we have for sale, and to help you make an informed decision.

Q: What are the different LCD screen sizes for notebooks?
A: Notebooks may come in the following LCD screen sizes, measured diagonally: 10.4 inches, 10.6 inches, 11.3 inches, 12.1 inches, 13.0 inches, 13.3 inches, 14.1 inches, 15.0 inches, 15.2 inches, 15.4 inches, 15.7 inches, 16.0 inches, 16.1 inches and 17.1 inches.
The best way to determine the size of the LCD screen you need is to consider what you will be using it for. If for presentations in from of two or more people, we recommend no less than 15".

Q: What are the different LCD screen resolutions for notebook computers?
A: Resolution is defined as the number of pixels or small dots that make up an LCD (liquid crystal display) screen. Most screens sold today are TFT active matrix LCD screens. TFT active matrix is a technology in which each pixel has a transistor attached to it to control the backlight shining through it. Each pixel is made up of 3 sub-pixels (red, green and blue) with each having its own transistor. Each of these pixels turns on and off and filters light through colored sub-pixels which results in an image. The more pixels or higher the resolution a screen is the crisper the image. Higher resolution screens allow more of an image to be viewable.

Q: If something goes wrong with my computer equipment how can you support me?
A: Mobile Planet has technical officers standing by in case of technical failure of computer equipment. If the goods were purchased from us and are still within their warranty period we will log and prioritise a technical service call with the manufacturer that is within the conditions of your warranty service agreement. At all times we accelerate our customers' technical repair needs. Call us on 1800 356 889 with your computer hardware in front of you.

Q: What kind of technical problems and repairs do you handle?
A: Mobile Planet co-ordinates all repairs with the manufacturers' national repair centres. Some systems may require a part or component that is not in stock and we will advise you at the onset of the repair if this is the case.

Q: What is the typical turn-around time for repairs?
A: We try to obtain a diagnosis from the manufacturer within one working day. Shipping and repair of the unit usually takes between 5-7 days. Before you release your machine for repair make sure you have backed up all your data as the information stored on your computer is your responsibility.

Q: How do I conserve battery power on my notebook?
A: While using the battery:

Dim the display as low as is comfortable.

Remove PC Cards when you do not need them. These use a small amount of power while inserted, even if they are not being used.

Modify power management settings for maximum power savings.

Use Hibernate mode while your notebook computer is not in use.

Use the CD/RW or DVD only when necessary. These drives use a substantial amount of power.

Run down and fully recharge the battery, especially before traveling.

Save the battery for times when you cannot use a power adapter. If traveling globally, take electrical adapters.

Q: Why is my notebook computer so warm?
A: It is normal for the external surfaces of the computer to feel warm when the computer is in use for extended periods. It is a result of the computer's power consumption while running its applications.
Make sure the computer is positioned on an even, solid surface and has adequate airflow. Check the space behind and around the computer to determine if ventilation is restricted.
The following may cause the computer to generate heat:

If the battery is fully discharged, the unit runs warmer while the battery charges.

PC Cards require an extra amount of energy even when the card is not in use.

A docking station or port replicator may generate extra heat.

Power settings set for maximum performance may generate extra heat. Modifying the power management settings for maximum power savings conserves power and reduces heat.

Q: How do I clean my notebook computer's LCD screen?
A: To clean your notebook computer screen, use a soft damp cloth. Never put water directly onto the screen. Do not use spray on household cleaning products. The LCD is easily scratched and damaged.

Q: I want to connect my two PCs together - what do I need?
A: If you need to connect two systems together only occasionally, a serial port-based solution may be sufficient. Products like Symantec pcANYWHERE and Traveling Software LapLink are designed for this purpose. If your needs go beyond the occasional file transfer, set up a simple network which can grow with your needs in the future. You'll need a network interface card for each system, cabling and perhaps a network hub. Mobile Planet can work with you to configure a solution that meets your needs and budget, ust call 1800 356 889.

Q: Can I upgrade the size or resolution of my laptop LCD screen?
A: Screen size cannot be upgraded. Your laptop resolution may be upgraded sometimes depending on the type of video card contained in your laptop and if there exists a compatible LCD screen of a higher resolution.

Q: Do I need a new laptop LCD screen if I have lines on my screen?
A: The presence of lines could indicate a problem with the screen, the video cable or the video card. It is possible that you need a new laptop LCD screen.
